DICK GROAT:
Dick was born November 4, 1930 in Wilkinsburg. Dick is best known for being the shortstop of the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1960, Dick led the league in batting and helped the Pirates win the World Series. Dick was also excellent basketball player, he attended Duke University. He was twice an All-American at Duke and was voted as the Helms National Player of the Year in 1952. He played one season in the NBA. In 2011 Dick was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame, becoming the first man ever inducted into both the college basketball and college baseball halls of fame.
