Wilkinsburg Historical Society is now meeting quarterly, four times a year.

We now meet quarterly. This new schedule was discussed at the first meeting this year on March 20, 2017. Members in attendance learned about the projects and activities planned for the upcoming year. “The Archives” the Historical Society newsletter, will continue to be printed nine times a year, March through November.

Historical Society to meet Monday, March 20 at 7:30 PM

The Wilkinsburg Historical Society will meet on Monday evening, March 20 at 7:30 pm at South Avenue United Methodist Church in Wilkinsburg, using the left Ross Avenue entrance. The meeting will focus on current Society projects and an overview of plans for 2017. Members, guests and all who are interested in Wilkinsburg history are welcome to come. Refreshments will be served following the meeting.

Annual Dinner to be held Monday, November 21, 2016 with storyteller Stas!

The final 2016 meeting of the Wilkinsburg Historical Society will be held on Monday, November 21, 2016 at the Bella Luna Trattoria restaurant in Monroeville. This dinner meeting will feature master storyteller Stanislaus Ziolkowski “Stas” to entertain the gathering with a few of his interesting stories. For the Historical Society dinner meeting, WE WILL BE ORDERING INDIVIDUALLY FROM THE MENU, SO YOU CAN CHOOSE WHATEVER YOU WOULD LIKE TO EAT. The storyteller Stas has begun a storytelling group, StoryShare, which meets in the Monroeville Public Library on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 in the program room. Anyone is welcome to come and learn more about the art of storytelling.
Stas is married to Terry Lee Ziolkowski who is a Wilkinsburg High School alumnus. The evening promises to be an enjoyable evening for anyone connected to Wilkinsburg!

Monday, October 17, 2016 meeting of Wilkinsburg Historical Society

The Wilkinsburg Historical Society will be meeting on Monday evening, October 17 to show the history of the Wilkinsburg Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber has its roots in 1893, just six years after the incorporation of Wilkinsburg, and has worked for 123 years to help the business community in Wilkinsburg. The Historical Society will feature a slide program of the businesses, highlights and issues over the years. This meeting will be October 17, 7:30 PM in the South Avenue United Methodist Church, using the left Ross Avenue entrance. Guests are always welcome and the meeting is free to attend.

Jane Holmes – A woman who cared

The next meeting of the Wilkinsburg Historical Society will be Monday, September 19 at 7:30 PM in South Avenue United Methodist Church, using the left Ross Avenue entrance. The program for the evening is Jane Holmes – A woman who cared. This presentation will feature the history of the Holmes family and the amazing generosity of Jane. The public is welcome, the meeting is free and refreshments will be served following the program.
